I’ve often wondered if we could truly trust anything implanted in our brains to be free from back-doors or other methods of surveillance/monitoring/control. Once it’s in, it isn’t going to come out or be disabled very easily.

“implant” is a pretty generic term - it would depend on what the ‘implant’ did. if it was a wireless uplink, like something outta neal stephenson’s book “snow crash” then probably not - I don’t have any desire to deliberately or accidentally become absorbed by a collective mind or become a remotely operated meat-puppet - but if it was some sort of nanite factory that pumped out designer mems to some open-source hackable code that could improve and repair brain cells, fight off infections, and just generally provide immortality, hell yeah. The important thing is that it be hackable by the person who has it (i’ve been giving this some thought.)

How about this, my dear sauceruney: say the choice is between brain death and a brain implant - knowing there is a risk of outside access to the implant, would you take the former or the latter?
As far as hacking a brain implant that’s inside your own head, mightn’t that be just as dangerous as being plugged into an information swapping network? Not really much margin for error.
